² into the wilderness, and was for forty days tempted by the devil. And during those days he ate nothing. And when they were ended, he was afterwards hungered. ³ And the devil said to him, If you are the Son of God, command this stone to be made bread. ⁴ And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written: Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
